Why this Directory: Changing how we do “change” work
The Change Industry
consists of countless white executives and managers who buy services, consultants, coaches, academics, qualification providers, book publishers, conference organizers, recruiters, and other industry participants, who work together to plan and implement “change” that inevitably reinforces the white dominant status quo across Western sectors and within the change industry.
The Global Majority
is the term for the 85% of the world’s population “who define themselves as Black, African, Asian, brown, who are of mixed heritage, of Arab descent, are indigenous to the global south and/or who have been racialized within the discourse about people.”
(Campbell-Stephens, 2021)
Our Dual Purpose
1. To encourage the replacement of all-white and mostly white change teams that reinforce the status quo, with a new norm of skin color-diverse teams that ensure representation of multiple different life and work experiences and perspectives.
2. To help do away with the beliefs of so many white practitioners that they are uniquely skilled at, knowledgeable about, and entitled to assume the leadership on global change work.
Supporting Materials
are available here. They debunk the longstanding and obsolete notions that the white dominant change industry is capable a) of helping Western organizations change for the future, despite changing demographic realities, and b) addressing global system challenges that have the greatest negative impact on the Global Majority.
